One of UNCG’s SeRA Research applications will be off-line during normal business hours Friday, March 23rd, due to a system upgrade. The Institutional Review Board Information System (IRBIS) is critical to any and all research projects involving human participants.
Important announcement for IRBIS users:
Your instances will be upgraded to 5.09.06.03 on March, 23rd. To perform this upgrade, THE SYSTEM WILL BE TAKEN OFFLINE AND UNAVAILABLE MOST OF THE DAY on Friday, March 23rd. The upgrade will have to take place during business hours due to the nature of the upgrade and the staff required to ensure its success.
Most of this upgrade impacts coding behind the scenes for GA and will not impact the user interface. This upgrade is taking place to better position us for our upgrading and version control in the future using Tortoise SVN – this will be especially important if there are any swift upgrades required when or if the Common Rule is put into effect. When the upgrade is complete, you will receive an email (as you have in the past) detailing what changes have taken place.
The Office of Research Integrity is excited to announce a re-vamped training option in Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR).
“Responsible Conduct of Research: Taking the High Road to Better Data”, formally known as “The Slippery Slope Series”, is a Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) series which consists of an in-person, 1.5 to 2 hour session featuring several RCR related topics.
The sessions are hosted by a different department each time. The topics are chosen by the department so that the session is applicable to the type of research being conducted in the department. If your department would be interested in hosting a session, please email ori@uncg.edu.
The Office of Research Integrity also continues to offer Epigeum: Research Integrity Certification and Assessment (RICA) as an RCR training option. Epigeum: Research Integrity Certification and Assessment (RICA) is an interactive course within the Blackboard organizations which contains lots of interactive and multimedia content. Epigeum can be used in undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs in fulfilment of a course or just in addition to providing students with knowledge in the area of Responsible Conduct of Research. The modules cover all nine RCR topics. Participants may self-enroll and class materials can be uploaded by the instructor of the course. It can also be used along with the Taking the High Road seminar series as part of the specific requirements in the responsible conduct of research as mandated by NIH and NSF, as well as other funding agencies.
By the end of the RICA course, participants should have a better understanding of their responsibilities as a researcher, be able to identify the kinds of challenges they might face in meeting these responsibilities and be aware of strategies for dealing with these challenges.
As a reminder, in order to meet the requirements of NSF and NIH RCR training, a combination (multimedia approach) of the options offered by our office (CITI, Epigeum, and our in-person seminar) need to be completed.
